Join IKS Project and Develop Open Source Semantic Search
EU-funded IKS Project will be meeting in Rome, Italy on November 12th
and 13th, 2009. The purpose for this workshop will be to define
"semantic search", to get a handle on what people want from it and to
start implementing under an Open Source license.
IKS is seeking CMS developers, both open source and proprietary, to present their prototypes for semantic search in a CMS at the workshop. IKS is able to provide sponsorship for European developers ready to present a working prototype. Developers interested in working on semantic search, but without a working prototype are welcome, but sponsorship is only available for presenters.
Peter Mika from Yahoo Research will be keynoting, and the event will feature product demonstations from at least 6 vendors. Vendors confirmed to be demonstrating will include:
1. Trialox (Reto Bachmann-Gmür)
2. Yahoo! Research (Peter Mika)
3. Salsadev (Stéphane Gamard)
4. Scribo (Stefane Fermigier)
5. Deri (Axel Polleres)
6. Kiwi (Rolf Sint)
The outcome of the workshop should be a better understanding of the state of the art in working semantic search systems, and a good understanding of what IKS should provide to make better semantic search possible. Note that IKS is not in the business of developing semantic solutions per se, but we are in the business of making useful techniques available to any CMS which complies with the IKS Architecture, i.e. “The Stack”.
The program for the event as well as further information for those who want to get involved with IKS can be found at http://www.iks-project.eu/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=3
