Sun has productized the ultimate add-on, its Project
Blackbox water-cooled virtual data center in a 20-foot shipping container, as the
Sun MD S20, MD being short for Modular Datacenter.
Now that it’s officially on the market, and not just a roving ambassador, Sun has added a new MD Suite of Services that cover site preparation, installation and testing as well as integration into existing IT infrastructure.
To recap, the MD is supposed to be capable of 18 teraflops of computer performance or 3 petabytes of desk capacity in a heterogeneous environment that’s deployable in a tenth the time it takes to get a traditional brick-and-mortar data center up and running and at a fraction of the cost.
Prices start at $559,000. How many would you like?
