MyEclipse 7 Released, 7 Licenses for DZone Members!
Genuitec, LLC, announced today the production release of MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench 7.0. The new release, built upon Eclipse 3.4.1/Ganymede, delivers the most comprehensive environment for Ajax and Web Services in the Eclipse space.
“With extensive tooling for JavaScript development tooling as well as new, unmatched support fore REST Web Services, MyEclipse is emerging as the Eclipse ecosystem's leader for agile Web 2.0 development,” said Wayne Parrott, vice president of product development for Genuitec. “As the volume of Web-interfaced programs increases, the ability for Eclipse developers to negotiate their projects efficiently and intuitively is becoming increasingly important.”
As a special to DZone readers, Genuitec is offering seven free subscriptions to random readers who offer their honest opinions on how MyEclipse is affecting their development. So start adding your comments, this competition ends 17 December 2008!
Additionally, MyEclipse 7.0 is delivered on top of the Pulse Eclipse Management Platform. This platform allows users to efficiently customize and maintain their MyEclipse environments both at the individual and corporate level.
MyEclipse users will also note enhanced support and delivery of Maven. As an enhancement of the Maven4MyEclipse tooling found in 6.5, users can now choose between using Maven in its raw format or the fully-integrated Maven4MyEclipse solution. This allows more full customization of Maven tool capabilities dictated by user needs.
The 7.0 release includes new support for or upgraded additions to:
- Advanced JavaScript tooling
- New Plugin Dashboard
- REST Web Services wizards and explorer

- OpenJPA support for MyEclipse Persistence tools
- MyEclipse Reports enhancements
- UML1, UML2 upgrades
- New JSF views and enhancements
- MyEclipse ICEfaces tooling
- much more!
“The sheer breadth of options available to MyEclipse users with this release is truly daunting,” said Pete Carapetyan, product manager for Genuitec. “7.0 is a great blend of filling in some customer-requested feature gaps and polishing the already rich set of tools. I think our users will be very pleased with the advances.”

MyEclipse is the addition to Eclipse to make yourself productive, i've been using it now for over 5 years and it works like a charm! Especially the debugging features for application servers is my personal favorite. Other things like specialised editors for various content types are very convinient, they make life much easier with the checks they perform or the hints (like code completion) they give.
The product is cheap compared to it's competitors en it gives a lot of functionality. I use it for web development on several different application servers and plugin development.
Keep up the good work!

I don't have to spend valuable time hunting down plugins and I can discover new features/plugins as I use MyEclipse.

I started using MyEclipse when it was priced at $29.99 and now it has become more expensive and different price for kind of people. Also it has become heavy weight. No doubt it has handful of feature but when it comes to usage we will not use all at one. There is no way that we can disable and make it light weight.
To get out of the frustration some time I come out of Myeclipse and use simple plain eclipse and with few plug-ins. all for free.

I worked with MyEclipse since last year, extremely good experience, support for Hibernate and Spring were awesome and also for Web Services was quite good.
I have used some other heavy IDEs before, but those weren't as fast as MyEclipse not to mentions it offers a lot of plugins and its really good.
Congratulations to Genuitec, Great Job Guys!!.

Scot,
You can actually turn off everything you don't want to use (or load) under the Window > Prefs > General > Capabilities > Advanced menu.
In addition to that the ME team is working on a more lightweight modularized version of the IDE going forward where folks can assemble the pieces they want.

MyEclipse is a very cheap (if not the cheapest) ide but it provides all the features needed to any Java developer. Therefore, any Java developer has reasons to go for MyEclipse even though Eclipse is freely available.
In furure I would like to see Grails and Groovy support and good PHP support in you features list.
Best Regards.

I like myeclipse very much. The most interesting feature i like is the server deployment. Here you can configure any type of web server and deploy your application. This is very useful and more productive.
I like the current version of my eclipse because it has the support for REST. Now the world goes along with REST. So defnitley this will attract more people.
Thanks,
Thamizharasu S

A logic evolution of a free ecosysteem! Its a nice though heavy weight solution for plugin hell.

Just a quick post, to be honest to enter the lotery.
But we've used myeclipse for Websphere development and it helped us way more than RSA from IBM(without ejb's). It allowes us easier cross platform compability . We're looking forward to the blue edition.
regards.

I've been using MyEclipse for 4 years now and it has became indispensable for my job.
Maybe it is now too bloated (4 times the size of Eclipse) !!
