EclipseZone - Your Guide To EclipseCon 2008
On Monday, EclipseCon 2008 kicks off in Santa Clara, and it looks like it's going to be the best yet. Although it kicks off on St Patrick's Day, the Irish national holiday - I'll be working hard to ensure EclipseZone has up-to-date content with all the latest news and announcements from the conference.
Monday is tutorial day, with Tuesday to Thursday being covered by talks on a broad range of some really interesting topics. The following is a list of talks I would recommend.
Tuesday
- How eRCP stacks up against Android and other Mobile Rich Client Platforms
- Creating Enterprise Business Applications Using Eclipse RCP
- The Equinox Community -- Runtime Technology at Eclipse
- Swordfish - The Eclipse SOA Runtime Framework
- Server-Side Eclipse - the dynamic server platform based on OSGi
- Connected Data Objects - The EMF Model Repository
- Developing Spring-powered applications in Eclipse with Spring IDE
Wednesday
- Eclipse 4.0
- Migrating your Graphical Editor to the Eclipse Graphical Modeling Framework
- Influences of Digital Communities on the Future of Software Development
- Using Eclipse to Model Rich Internet Applications and Web Services for Spring
- RAP the Web
- The Next Wave of IDE Innovation: Eclipse and Visual Studio in 2010
- The Future of Enterprise Java
By Rod Johnson, creator of Spring - this is a must see talk, even if you think Enterprise Java doesn't apply to you.
Thursday
- Eclipse Riena Project
- Making Money with Eclipse: A Survivor's Guide
- Buckminster & Spaces: Better Together
- From the RCP Book to Reality
- Lessons Learned from an Enterprise RCP Application
There's still time to register, if you haven't done so yet. And if you can't get there, every cloud has a silver lining - visit us daily next week and keep up to date with all the latest from Santa Clara.

For all you Eclipse members out there, don't forget to come to the Members' Reception on Monday at 7:00 pm to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. It will take place outside by the Hyatt Santa Clara’s pool (weather permitting). The reception is being hosted by 4 of our German member companies - brox, Empolis, Innoopract and SOPERA – so it will be St. Patrick’s Day done German style.
The head chef at the Hyatt is German, so he’s planning an authentic menu, complete with bratwurst and sauerkraut. As usual, beers will be a highlight of the evening, including classic German and Irish favourites. There was late-breaking confirmation today that there will be Guinness! No word on whether the beer will be dyed green.
All leprechauns captured at the event will be required to make a donation of gold to the Eclipse Friends program.
