Jim Moscater Data Startup Acunu Opens The Castle Gates

Earlier this week, U.K.-based data storage startup Acunu made Castle, the storage core of the Acunu Storage Platform, open source. Castle is a fully-versioned, write-optimized, multi-dimensional key-value store. It packages the Core, the Acunu Distribution (which includes Apache Cassandra), and an enterprise-level management stack for deploying/managing/monitoring the entire system.
Acunu recently made waves as one of the 11 finalists in GigaOM's Structure 2011 LaunchPad, a competition that focuses on startups who are on the cutting-edge of cloud computing and infrastructure.
Open source hacker folk are encouraged to get involved with Castle, either through building or contributing.
If you are interested in contributing, we’d love to hear about it – here are a few ideas for things we’d love help with:
- Port Castle to newer kernels & different architectures
- Write bindings for libcastle to your favourite language – Erlang or Python anyone?
- Write storage adapters for your favourite database – Redis or Riak would be nice. We’ll be putting up a ‘labs’ page soon with these experimental additions.
