Daily Dose - Windows Phone 7 Launch is Oct. 11 Say Sources

According to several anonymous sources, allegedly from Microsoft, the GA launch of the Windows Phone 7 OS is scheduled for October 11th.  Pocket-lint said it talked to the sources and they also said that handsets with the OS will ship later in October.  Microsoft has confirmed that Asus, HTC, LG, Samsung, and Dell will be making WP7 phones.  

Mozilla Pours the Jaeger
The first build of Firefox 4 that includes the new JaegerMonkey JavaScript engine is now available.  Mozilla says it aims to match the performance of IE9 and close the gap with Chrome, Opera, and Safari.  Testers have noticed a dramatic speed increase.

Garner Predicts Android as #1 in North America Before the End of 2010

While Android is still behind Symbian in world market share, Garner expects them to take 2nd place worldwide very soon.  In the North America market, Gartner made the bold prediction that Android would surpass BlackBerry in market share by the end of this year.  Other sources like AdMob and comScore have confirmed Android's meteoric rise this year, and Gartner has them up from 3.9% to 17.9% in less than a year.  

A Java View Server for CouchDB by Cloudant
Cloudant, who distributes open source clustered CouchDB, released a Java View Server for CouchDB.  This tool allows MapReduce jobs to be written with JVM languages, Python, JavaScript, and Erlang.  Currently it can only be used on Cloudant's BigCouch hosted service.
