Daily Dose - Firefox 4 Getting Auto-Updates

Tucked away in a tiny corner of the Firefox discussion forum is a quote from Alex Faaborg, a principal designer on Firefox.  The posting says that Firefox 4 will begin to include automatic updates for minor releases.  Only major updates (e.g. 4, 4.5, or 5) would have an update dialog box.  This feature, like many others in Firefox 4, will bring the browser in line with Google Chrome's feature set.

HP CEO Sacked; Gets up to $50 Million Severance
Mark Hurd resigned his post as HP's CEO this weekend after sexual harassment accusations by a former HP contractor led the board of directors to certain expense reports that Hurd had falsified.  The news has caused HP's stock to drop 10%.  Reports say that Hurd will get a severance package of $40 to $50 million.

Microsoft Releases PDO Version of PHP Driver
A new version of the PHP driver for Microsoft's SQL Server was released recently.  The interface adds PHP Data Objects (PDO) alternatives.  PDO provides an object-oriented API which abstracts broadly from the underlying database, and it is a pure SQL interface.

GraniteDS Plugin for Grails Updated
The 0.8.1release of the gdsflex plugin is now ready for download.  GraniteDS is an open source alternative to Adobe LiveCycle Data Services for J2EE application servers.  A critical bug in Spring Security integration has been fixed and the libs folder was added to the Flex compiler options.  A new feature in this release is the ability to generate typesafe ActionScript proxies for services.

Code Generation done right…
