Firefox 3.6.4 Delayed
The next security and stability update for the 3.6.x branch of Firefox is going to take just a little bit longer to complete, developers say. Mozilla has instead issued a release candidate of Firefox 3.6.4. This is the release that will finally bring out-of-process plugins (OOPP) to Firefox, so that plugins can only crash a tab rather than the whole browser.
Microsoft Responds to Google's Phasing-out of Windows
Brandon LeBlanc, who manages the official Windows team blog, responded to the reports that said Google would be moving most of its internal machines to either Mac or Linux, leaving Windows behind. Google cited security reasons for the switch, but LeBlanc suggested that Google take a look in the mirror because Yale University stopped their standardization on Google Apps due to security and privacy concerns. LeBlanc defended Windows security, saying that some hackers admit that Microsoft is doing a better job at security than anyone else.
Spiceworks Tops 1 Million Users
The free social IT management software, Spiceworks, has surpassed 1 million users this week after its founding 4 years ago. According to Spiceworks, this means that 1 in 5 SMB IT professionals (worldwide) use their software. At its current rate of adoption, Spiceworks will surpass 1.3 million users by the end of the year. It has doubled the number of advertisers and revenue run rate, and the company also raised $16 million in series C funding so far this year.
