After Oracle CEO Larry Ellison's scathing comments criticizing the (mis)management of Sun Microsystems, former Sun CEO Jonathan Schwartz had only one thing to say when a New York Times reporter asked him to comment: “Larry Ellison is a completely flawless, lovely man,” said Schwartz.  While it doesn't address any of Ellison's criticisms, it does add an oddly humorous tone to the discussion.  Seems like he took a page from Adobe's "I <3 Apple" strategy.

EC Commissioner Wants to Stop China's Great "Firewall"
You may remember the European Competiton Commissioner, Neelie Kroes, from the Oracle-Sun fiasco.  Well today, in Shanghai, she said that the World Trade Organization needs to address China's massive amount of blocked sites from Western nations.  Kroes says the 'Great Firewall' is an illicit barrier to free trade.

Linux Kernel 2.6.34 is Out
The newest update for the core Linux tree, developed by Linus Torvalds, is out today.  The new version adds two new filesystems: Ceph and LogFS.  The release also includes the VMware balloon driver, a driver for almost-native KVM network performance, optimization for dynamic probes (the 'probes jump'), Btrfs improvements, RCU locked, new perf features, the Generalized TTL Security Mechanism, and private VLAN proxy arp support.

Rubinius 1.0 - Ruby written in Ruby
Named after Fabius, a great defender of Rome, Rubinius version 1.0 was released this week in the culmination of three and a half years of development.  Rubinius implements Ruby with a bytecode compiler and core classes written in Ruby.  It also incorporates the LLVM and a C++ bytecode VM.  It is licensed under the BSD.
