Daily Dose - Scala 2.8.1 Release Goes Final

The first update to Scala's 2.8.x line is now generally available with a large number of bugfixes and several improvements.  The Scaladoc tool has seen the most noticeable improvement in this release.  Scala 2.8.1 is fully binary compatible with Scala 2.8.0.  The 2.8.x line is not binary compatible with Scala 2.7.x.

Oracle Initiates Manhunt for HP CEO
If you've been following our corporate soap opera between Oracle, SAP, and HP, then you'll know that Oracle CEO Larry Ellison told former SAP CEO and current HP CEO Leo Apotheker to skip town before he got his subpoena to appear in the trial of Oracle vs. SAP.  In response, Leo did skip town and now Oracle has reportedly hired a private investigator to track Apotheker down.  It's not clear if Apotheker is overseas or in California.  For further entertainment, read about Ellison's cross-examination by SAP lawyers.

Advanced Graphics Engine Will Power Lightspark 0.4.5

The free and open source Flash Player, Lightspark, will feature a faster, more powerful graphics architecture in the next version.  Version 0.4.5 expects to have a reduction in overall CPU load and crisper graphics as a result.  The developers are also redesigning the input support to be more robust.

Firefox 4 Beta 7 Arrives After Much Delay
After running into a plethora of bugs in the seventh beta for Firefox 4, Mozilla has finally fixed them and released the GA version of Firefox 4 beta 7.  The beta should be available today barring any last minute issues.  The delays in developing the 7th beta have moved the final release of Firefox 4 back to 2011.
