Semantic Web Tech Reaches Nuxeo Platform
The Java-based Nuxeo Platform just released a special Semantic Linking package for its content management applications. The package is based on the Apache Stanbol incubator project (formerly called FISE). It's a standalone HTTP service written in Java that easily integrates into any platform written in any language thanks to it's RESTful design. Users will be able to easily identify known entities across large volumes of text analyze because the package automatically documents text to identify people, places, and objects and then create entities based on them.
Google Wave Makes it Into Incubator
You probably remember that Google Wave was going to the Apache incubator a few months ago. Well now we have confirmation that the doomed Google project was accepted into the Apache family. Back in August when the project shut down at Google, they also created Wave in a Box (WIAB) under the Apache license. It allows users to set up their own Wave servers. While it doesn't have the full range of features that the original Wave had, it does have an implementation of the Wave Federation Protocol.
Cute Alert! Mozilla Adopts Two "Firefoxes"
Mozilla appears to be moving into the animal conservation field since they recently adopted two female 'Firefox' (Red Panda) cubs from the Knoxville Zoo. Perhaps in an attempt to build off the popularity of Puppy Cam, Mozilla has set up a 24-hr video stream of their two "Mozillians"(They're most active at 9 a.m., 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. EST). Users who download Firefox from the site will help the Red Pandas get a new jungle gym. I can't think of a better reason to download Firefox.
