Daily Dose - Hibernate 3.5 CR1 JPA 2 Compliant
The JBoss blog just announced the release of Hibernate 3.5.0 CR 1 (that's "Candidate Release," which is basically JBoss' way of saying "Release Candidate"). JBoss says that this is the first version of Hibernate that is fully JPA (Java Persistence API) 2 compliant. They are currently in the process of certifying for standalone JPA 2, which is the main goal of Hibernate 3.5. The CR has now been integrated into JBoss AS M2 as part of that division's efforts toward full JEE 6 compliance.
Google Liquid Galaxy
Google has posted a video demoing what it calls 'Liquid Galaxy' at the TED 2010 talks. It's a modified Google Earth engine displayed across 8 large LCD screens for seamless flyby views around the globe and beyond. The demo also showcased Google's virtual mapping on other worlds in a trip to the Moon and Mars.
Verizon Could Get Skype Before AT&T
Reports say that Verizon is working on Skype integrations in their phones to gain an edge in competition with AT&T. The reported deal will include Skype being preloaded onto a range of phones. The two companies are expected to announce the deal tomorrow in Barcelona, Spain. Skype has said that it is developing a version that will work on AT&T's network as well.
Ellison Wins America's Cup
Oracle CEO Larry Ellison had no anti-trust distractions on the second round of the America's Cup sailing race. The 65-year old software tycoon was aboard the Oracle/BMW sponsored boat when it beat Alinghi of Switzerland for the cup. For the first time in 15 years, the U.S. is now bringing home the oldest trophy in international sports. Sun Microsystem's logo could be seen added onto the yacht's sail along with Oracle's.
