The Java Evolution Mismatch: Why You Need a Better JVM
Presented by Gil Tene, CTO and Co-founder, Azul Systems, Inc.
Abstract: Functionality is great, but what about performance? Java started life as a toy platform and quickly became an enterprise tool. Early on, evolution in performance and scalability went hand in hand with functionality improvements. However, virtually all subsequent improvement to the Java platform were in language features and scope, with basic performance remaining largely unchanged. The result is that modern Java apps are powerful and flexible, but their performance can be iffy. Application instances now have a hard time consuming even a small fraction of entry level modern server without incurring unacceptable and detrimental effects.
In this 30-minute Webinar, Azul CTO Gil Tene explains how the Zing Java runtime platform eliminates the evolution mismatch and allows enterprises to consistently and reliably power their applications, making full use of modern server capabilities.
Speaker Bio: Gil Tene has been involved with virtual machine technologies for the past 20 years and has been building Java technology based products since 1995. He co-founded Azul Systems in 2002 with two other partners.
Gil pioneered Azul's Continuously Concurrent Compacting Collector (C4), Java Virtualization, and various managed runtime and systems stack technologies that combine to deliver the industry's most scalable and robust Java platforms.
Prior to co-founding Azul Systems, Gil was Director of Technology at Nortel Networks, Shasta Networks and at Check Point Software Technologies. In 2006 he was named one of the Top 50 Agenda Setters in the technology industry by Silicon.com. Gil holds a BSEE from The Technion Israel Institute of Technology, and has been awarded 23 patents in computer-related technologies.
