Redis is unique when it comes to NoSQL databases.  It actually can become a fully functional message queue if you want.  One company has written instructions just for this:

The implementation uses the Go programming language and it's not just an experiment.  They use it in production.  Redis may not be the best choice for complex broker systems, but it can definitely function as a simple, reliable queue.  Check out the article to see the code.
