Havalo: A Zero-Config, Non-Distributed KV Store
A lot of the mainstream NoSQL data stores are not quick setups. None of them can claim to be "zero-configuration," but Mark Kolich's open source project, Havalo, can make that claim. It's specifically built for Servlet 3.0 containers such as Jetty and Tomcat.
If you're looking at, or currently using, key-value stores, and you don't need your store to be distributed or completely fault-tolerant, Havalo is worth a look. It's not an off-the-shelf replacement for Amazon S3, Redis, Voldemort or Apache's Cassandra, but if it meets your needs, its speed of deployment is exceptional.
Havalo is perfect for testing, maintaining fast indexes of data stored "elsewhere", and almost any other deployment scenario where relational databases are just too heavy.
