You are correct iText is free but is does not offer the robust features that are supported by Aspose.Pdf. Just to give you a glimpse of the stunning features those are offered by Aspose.Pdf

1 -It gives you the options to convert Text, RTF, Word, Excel workbook, conventional Image formats, HTML files, ASPX pages, it can transform XML, XSL, XSL-Fo into Pdf. It also offers the API which can be used to generate the Pdf file from scratch. Where as iText has partial support to render RTF files into pdf (as far as I've seen over iText forum)

2 -Not just like iText which only offers the capability to set user password, Aspose.Pdf offers the capability to protect the Pdf file by setting access privileges over Pdf document, set document security with User/Admin password, and protect the file with up to 128Bit encryption.

3 -If offers the capability to create annotations, attachments, bookmarks, Hyperlinks, provides support to 14 core fonts, also allows you to embed the custom font into your generate Pdf file, full support for tables, graphic objects, setting of page layout, display mode, rendering mode, and much more.

4 -Another very exciting feature of Aspose.Pdf is to generate Pdf forms, embed watermarks into Pdf file.

5 -Aspose offers Free Support to anyone! Whether you are a customer or simply evaluating an Aspose product… we are always glad to help. Our free support is handled through the Aspose Forums, which are maintained by our highly skilled development teams. Rather than having a disconnected support staff, Aspose enables you to talk directly to the people who have built and maintain our products. We know, by doing that, you are guaranteed to get the solutions to your problems more quickly and accurately.

6 -Aspose also offers free trial version of all its products, which includes all the features that are provided in licensed versions, except for the Company logo embedded as watermark on every generated output. You can also enjoy the Temporary License offer. During your evaluation, if you have any query, we are pleased to acknowledge your queries and provide you assistance. Including all above features, it allows you to either save the Pdf file over hard drive or even display it to user in explorer.

- For further information you may consult to Product Brochure
- I would have missed some of the powerful features of this product, please visit Aspose.Pdf HomePage
- For complete list of its features, please visit Aspose.Pdf Features
- FYI we have another product named Aspose.Pdf.Kit which is used to edit existing Pdf files. Please visit Aspose.Pdf v.s. Aspose.Pdf.Kit for related information on difference between two products.
- In case you have any further query, your are more than welcome to post your query over Aspose.Pdf Forum

I found this page by accident. Please let me correct some of the allegations that are made:

iText supports document encryption with user/owner passwords: ARC4, AES, 40bit, 128bit

Even certificate encryption is supported!

iText supports every type of annotation, even RichMedia annotations (New in the Level 3 Adobe Extensions to ISO-32000); this means that you can use iText to embed a Flash application into a PDF and establish communication between the JavaScript in a PDF file and the ActionScript in the Flex app.

iText supports the so called "Base 14 fonts", but also other Type 1 fonts, TrueType, OpenType with TrueType outlines, OpenType with Type1 outlines, Type3 fonts, CJK fonts,... Writing from Right to Left (e.g. Hebrew), from top to bottom (e.g. Japanese), and Arabic ligatures are supported too.

iText has full support of AcroForms (creating forms, changing form properties, filling out forms, flattening) and also supports XFA forms (filling out dynamic forms).

iText can also extract text from a page and it can convert a tagged PDF file to XML. This is only a limited overview of what's possible with iText.

Currently, there's a SECOND book about iText in the works, unveiling many secrets of the PDF specification.
